Zuka Private Game Reserve is the cornerstone property of a pioneering land assembly founded in 2001 by Tara and Jessica Getty. This progressive restoration and rewilding project covers 25,450 acres. It integrates environmental, animal and marine conservation with rural social development. The reserve, a formal protected area in northern
KwaZulu Natal, borders the UNESCO World Heritage Site of iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Zuka’s close proximity to the Indian Ocean allows for a day spent on the unspoiled beach, perhaps with some scuba diving or snorkelling, before ending with viewing a leopard and sipping a cocktail looking back over dramatic views to one of the world’s highest vegetated sand dune systems. biodiversity; the day starts with an early morning game drive, guided by an experienced professional, through the varied ecosystems and topography, for close encounters with elephants, black rhinos, white rhinos, lions, leopards, buffaloes, cheetahs or as a birding paradise with over 400 bird species. Pausing out in the bush, after the early start,
safari guides turn barista for guests to enjoy a coffee from the engineered machine, powered by the open Land Rover. For a change of pace, walking offers a different perspective for guests to notice tiny details, animal tracks or view game from a safe distance before heading home for breakfast, tennis, massage treatments or time by the pool. After lunch, an afternoon game drive flows into sunset and the evening sundowner drinks ritual, before a nocturnal adventure, dinner and fireside talk to end the day.
