Riad Siwan MARRAKECH, MOROCCO

Riad Siwan is a luxurious and tranquil sanctuary in the ancient Medina of Marrakech. A few minutes’ stroll from the famous Jemaa el Fna, Riad Siwan combines the privacy of a traditional riad with the chic of modern design. The building, a former palace of the Khaloufi

family built in the 19th century, has been restored over a period of more than three years to its former glory. Craftsman from all over Morocco were hired to bring back the plaster sculptures, cedar wood doors and sculptured cedar wood ceilings, then added 21st-century necessities like rain showers, central heating, air-con, wif-fi and a pool. Riad Siwan has seven suites of varying styles

and sizes, each with its own unique design and atmosphere. Almost all bedrooms are named after villages the owners visited during their travels throughout Morocco. As with all the furnishings, decoration and fabrics in Riad Siwan, everything has been specifically designed and made by local craftspeople for each individual room. There are spacious bathrooms of marble,

polished granite and tadelakt (the traditional lime

plaster of Morocco), private terraces and glass doors for the cooler months. Some rooms have an open fireplace and a private balcony or terrace. The style reflects a fascinating fusion of

traditional Moroccan, African and European influences, but remains unmistakably Moroccan. There are many unique pieces of African and local art and photography dotted around the riad that the owners have collected during their travels in various parts of the world. Riad Siwan has been designed to be your own

personal story from a modern-day Arabian Nights: stylish and spacious rooms, a beautiful salon with a fireplace, music and books, a courtyard with garden, a roof terrace with a spacious salon, parasol-shaded lounge beds, a pool, a tower with a 360-degree view of the city and the snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas Mountains, a romantic dining room and superb Moroccan cuisine. The owner Maryk and manager Khalid

— together with their enthusiastic and attentive team — will make sure that your stay in Riad Siwan is truly unforgettable.

DON’T MISS Enjoy a romantic meal in the atmospheric dining room, featuring a suspended, hand-crafted glass raindrop sculpture
