Katara Lodge QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK, UGANDA

This gem, perched on the Kichwamba Escarpment overlooking the world-renowned Queen Elizabeth National Park, is more than just a place to stay. Katara is a breathtaking base from which to explore one of Africa’s most biodiverse parks, offering guests a unique experience of a blend of luxury, nature and adventure. Its strategic location offers panoramic views

of the savannah, Lake Edward and the majestic Rwenzori Mountains, while the elevated position means it’s a stunning vantage point for spotting wildlife and soaking in the spectacular landscape and sunsets over the park, whether you’re in the saltwater pool, poolside lounge, on your own private balcony or in the restaurant. The lodge is approximately 10 miles from the

main entrance to the park and about an hour’s drive from Kasese Airfield. Each of the nine luxurious spacious cottages,

designed to blend seamlessly with the natural environment, were constructed using local materials and traditional techniques, and offer an authentic yet comfortable experience.

Seven of the cottages have an open-plan

bedroom, living area and balcony, an open-air bathroom with a roll-top bath and a rain shower. There’s also the chance to make your own ‘Star Bed’, for those seeking the unique experience of sleeping under the vast African sky — guests can simply roll their beds out onto the verandah for this unforgettable stargazing experience. Two of the cottages are designed for families,

with two bedrooms and enclosed bathrooms. Both have private verandahs. One has a private swing- bed and two en suite bedrooms while the other is handicap-friendly with shared bathroom facilities and located close to the restaurant and pool. The lodge’s restaurant serves a delectable array

of dishes, blending local Ugandan flavours with international cuisine. Ingredients sourced from the lodge’s organic garden and nearby farms ensure fresh and healthy meals. Guests can enjoy their meals in the open-air dining area, which overlooks the park, providing a picturesque backdrop. Guests staying longer than two nights can even have a barbecue by the pool as the sun sets.
