PAID CONTENT FOR KALIWA LODGE

Kaliwa Lodge MOUNT KILIMANJARO, TANZANIA

In the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, surrounded by African rainforest, lies Kaliwa Lodge. It stands out from the archetypical safari lodge, embracing a clean Bauhaus aesthetic that blends in with the surrounding nature. Kaliwa is the perfect getaway for adventurous travellers, situated in close proximity to a number of exciting areas and promising a return to laid-back, luxurious comfort. The lodge accommodates a broad spectrum

of guests. There are single rooms perfect for solo adventurers, a favourite of those embarking on a Kilimanjaro hike. There are couple’s rooms made for the ideal romantic getaway, or larger abodes that can house the whole family. All of these options are well- appointed, comfortable and, of course, beautiful. However, Kaliwa’s recently constructed bungalows definitely offer the most luxurious experience. These structures are spacious and well equipped — boasting a cosy fireplace, a private terrace and a jaw-dropping view of Mount Kilimanjaro. Kaliwa Lodge offers other highlights. Chief among

them is the wooden deck, a communal space that offers a majestic vista of the forest, riverine valleys

and cloud-crowned Kilimanjaro. Meander through the gardens in the morning for the a picturesque breakfast, or come in the evening to watch the sunset as you enjoy a glass of wine and dinner. Of course, most visitors are here to explore the

majesty of Africa’s natural world. Fortunately, the lodge is very near a number of footpaths that delve into the surrounding montane forests and into Kilimanjaro National Park. These paths are safe to traverse and offer a chance to see monkeys, chameleons, antelope, turacos, porcupines, genets and many other remarkable species. Even without leaving the lodge, guests can expect to see a number of wild visitors like silvery-cheeked hornbills that nest in the trees, or bushbabies that emerge at night. Kaliwa Lodge is also situated at the edge of

Machame, a charming village where guests get a chance to engage with local Chagga culture. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy a feast-like lunch at a local homestead, visit the primary school, or tour a local farm where you could learn about how coffee is grown and roasted, or how bananas are used to make a traditional beer.

DON’T MISS Take a walk on the wild side on the slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro or head out on a tailored safari trip
