Jai Tiki Retreat KOH LANTA, THAILAND
Named from the Sanskrit word jai, meaning ‘little moments of victory’, Jai Tiki Retreat offers a restorative, adults-only escape on the west coast of Koh Lanta. With just 18 spacious rooms, the retreat fosters an atmosphere where guests feel recognised as individuals rather than room numbers. Set directly on the white sands of Klong Dao
Beach, Jai Tiki enjoys a west-facing shoreline renowned for its nightly kaleidoscope of colour as the sun sets behind the silhouette of the Phi Phi Islands. The surrounding landscape is home to an abundance of wildlife, including birds of prey, monitor lizards, macaques and fruit bats. Dining is a key element of the experience. The
kitchen highlights fusion dishes inspired by Thai flavours, anchored by ingredients sourced from local farmers and fisherfolk. Fresh squid and sea bass arrive daily from the Andaman Sea, caught by the chef’s own family. The cocktail programme is thoughtfully woven throughout the stay, beginning with a handcrafted welcome drink and continuing with tropical creations at the beachfront Tiki Bar, made with regional spirits from across Thailand
and Southeast Asia. Even the massage menu pays homage to cocktail culture, adding a playful touch to traditional wellness offerings. Breakfast is a la carte and features locally roasted coffee, ground fresh each morning. The 15-metre beachfront infinity pool sits only
steps from the sand, surrounded by open sunbeds and shaded terraces. Traditional Thai treatments, including ancient herbal compress techniques, take place in the sea-facing massage room, where the sound of the tide enhances the restorative experience. Positioned far from the island’s larger resorts, Jai Tiki Retreat is designed to help travellers find balance, calm and those memorable ‘moments of jai’ that capture the spirit of slow island living. Koh Lanta offers abundant opportunities for
exploration. Ethical elephant encounters, longtail fishing trips, Thai cooking classes and boat excursions to nearby islands rich with marine life reveal the wider beauty of the region. A visit to the island’s animal welfare sanctuary is recommended. The retreat is an active supporter of the organisation, which once cared for Jai Tiki’s resident cat, Maya.
