Hotel Tigaiga TENERIFE, SPAIN
Set on the lush northern coast of Tenerife, Hotel Tigaiga enjoys a privileged position beside Puerto de la Cruz’s expansive Taoro Park. Surrounded by subtropical gardens and panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and Mount Teide, the hotel offers a serene retreat that blends nature, culture and long- established Canarian hospitality. The hotel sits within walking distance of the
town’s historic quarter, where traditional buildings are surrounded by palm trees, artisan shops and small cafes serving classic local dishes. Puerto de la Cruz is also home to one of Tenerife’s most photographed coastal promenades, featuring the Lago Martiánez seawater complex — designed by famed Spanish artist and sculptor César Manrique — which is a fusion of volcanic stone, sculptural elements and glistening pools fed by the Atlantic. In terms of the property itself, Hotel Tigaiga
offers a wide range of facilities designed for comfort and relaxation. Regarding sustainability, it was the first hotel in the Canary Islands to introduce solar panels to heat up water, and in 2019, the first to produce compost from its organic waste.
In addition, an outdoor heated pool surrounded by an inviting sun terrace welcomes guests to enjoy a relaxing swim while overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Curated by the Talg family three generations ago, the gardens feature more than 200 species of plants, from dragon trees and rare cycads to towering palms. The restaurant offers a selection of dishes made
with fresh, locally grown produce, and guests can savour their meals in the comfort of the indoor dining room or on the open-air terrace. The rooms are bright, spacious and designed to reflect the hotel’s garden setting, with many offering views of the ocean, Mount Teide or Taoro Park. Guests can also explore the nearby La Orotava
Valley. Its terraced vineyards, botanical gardens and historic mansions offer a rich insight into the island’s traditional way of life. Puerto de la Cruz boasts historical links with Ireland — its first mayor in the 18th century was an Irishman — while the neighbouring Anglican church is the oldest in Spain. During her stay in Puerto de la Cruz, Agatha Christie wrote the short story Man from the Sea.
