Beckerwyc House AUSTEVOLL, NORWAY
Just a 70-minute boat journey from Bergen lies the charming coastal village of Bekkjarvik. Built on a long tradition of shipping, trade and fisheries, this friendly community is an ideal destination for travellers seeking tranquillity, authentic coastal culture and outstanding food. The seafront is easy to explore, whether strolling along the bay or wandering the beautiful coastal paths that frame the village and its surrounding nature. At the heart of Bekkjarvik are two closely
connected hotels: the historic Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri and its younger sister Beckerwyc House, which opened in 2023. Family-owned for generations, Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri traces its history back to the late 17th century, when King Christian IV ordered guesthouses to be built along the Norwegian coastline, each a half-day’s journey apart, to provide food and shelter for travellers. Over the centuries, Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri
became much more than an inn. It housed a steamboat terminal, barrel factory, herring and cured-fish factories, a lobster station, a brewery and facilities for drying fishing nets. Many of these
historic buildings are still in use today, lending the village its authentic atmosphere. Even the former grocery store has found new life as a local gallery showcasing works by Norwegian artists. Beckerwyc House offers a contemporary contrast
while maintaining the same sense of heritage. Days begin with breakfast served in elegant rooms that balance comfort and refinement, with sweeping views of the open sea. Guests can spend their time walking along coastal paths, exploring the tranquil park or visiting the beautiful rose garden. At Beckerwyc Academy, trained chefs and sommeliers share their knowledge of regional cuisine through curated experiences. Dining is central to the Bekkjarvik experience.
At Beckerwyc House, Mirabelle is the signature restaurant created by Bocuse d’Or winner Ørjan Johannessen. Located on the top floor, the restaurant overlooks the open kitchen where Ørjan and his team present an evolving tasting menu of around 15 courses inspired by island gastronomy. Seafood takes centre stage, with the finest local fish and shellfish being showcased.
