Celebrate the heroic Lady Aethelfl aed One of the most remarkable fi gures associated with Tamworth is Aethelfl aed, the Lady of the Mercians. Known for her exceptional leadership and military prowess, Aethelfl aed was a formidable ruler who defended her kingdom against Viking invasions and fortifi ed the town of Tamworth. Her legacy is celebrated with a statue of her and her nephew Athelstan, who went on to become the fi rst king of all England. Discover the inspiring story of this extraordinary woman and her impact on Mercia and beyond.
