fi nancial planning for 2025 L

ife has a way of keeping us busy, doesn’t it? Between careers, family, friends and all the little

things in between, it’s easy for fi nan- cial planning to take a back seat. We all know it’s important, but let’s face it — for many, it just doesn’t feel urgent. But here’s the truth: getting your

fi nances in order now can make all the diff erence to your future. Whether you’re thinking about retirement, family security or just building a comfortable lifestyle for

the years

ahead, a bit of proactive fi nancial planning brings peace of mind and sets you on the right path.

the Chancellor has

given signifi cant future tax increases to many. Your fi nancial goals may not have changed, but this new tax burden

could mean your planning should be adjusted sooner rather than later.

Three key things to do now: 1. Revisit your estate plan: Over the coming years, new legislation means pension pots will form part of your estate for inheritance tax. T is, as well as changes to other reliefs, means now is the time to evaluate how your estate will pass to your benefi ciaries both in life and on death.

2. Reassess your pension strategy: It’s worth a check that your current saving or income strategy will still be as tax effi cient. Perhaps consol- idating existing pensions at the same time could simplify things and/or boost growth potential. It’s now important to check the suita- bility of death benefi t nominations.

3. Review your investment strategy: Some tax reliefs and allowances have changed and this could mean you need a new investment approach. Take a step back and see if your current strategy still works. Interest rates are set to fall further and infl ation is still a key risk to capital, should your money be working harder?

Three steps you can take to get started: 1. Imagine… Does anything about your lifestyle need to change? What transitions are coming up? Kids moving out, parents in old age and personal health-related issues are examples. Will it be a ‘cliff - edge’ retirement for you, or, like an increasing number of people, a gradual ease off the accelerator? How will that fi t with your loved ones? Understanding some of the possibilities here will undoubtedly be a helpful place to start.

2. Review your numbers… What’s your current income, what are your monthly expenses and what do you owe? A great budgeting exercise is central to setting realistic goals and fi nding ways to improve. T is is where many people fail to be honest with themselves. It’s a crucial step and detail matters.

3. Get together all your fi nancial ‘stuff ’… Pensions, savings,

invest-

ments and insurances for a start — making sure to include that pension from the job you worked for a year ‘way back when’ and the ISA whose statement ends up in the
