generation of humanoid robot offspring, with the un-human name of T-HR3.


He’s very advanced for his age and designed to assist in the home, hospitals, disaster zones or even outer space. T-HR3 was designed by Toyota’s

Partner Robot Division. Its remote manoeuvering system lets it mirror commands by its operator via wearable controls that map your hand, arm and foot movements to the robot’s. So walking on the spot from a control chair, for example, makes the robot move forward or to the side. The robot has 29 body parts and 16 control systems.


DRIVE TO GET MORE GIRLS INTO ENGINEERING


One hundred secondary schoolgirls discovered exciting apprenticeship opportunities at an event held at Toyota in the UK recently. Hosted at the Toyota Academy in Derbyshire, the event supported the company’s mission to increase the number of women in the industry. The day included exposure to


the technical, customer care and manufacturing sectors and the chance to talk about career opportunities. “We need more women in our


industry so that we can benefit from diversity of thinking in everything we do,” says Robin Giles, Toyota GB’s Director of HR & Corporate Operations. We need women in SA too, so


hopefully this will inspire similar events here.
