Inside ICI Congratulations!
T
he ICI is proud to announce that Michael Schlott has the honor of being the Investment Casting
Institute’s first Independent Process Control Certified Surveyor (PCCS). In this role, Michael will be called upon when Bronze PCS Certified foundries are ready to certify to either the Silver or Gold Level. Bronze PCS Certification indicates
that a foundry is 40% compliant with the Process Control Standard established by the ICI last year. This level is self- certified and requires that the foundry has an Internal PCCS. To date, we have certified two Internal PCCS, John Slawvey
PROCESS CONTROL
Process Control Standards: 1st Independent Surveyor Certified
CERTIFIED SURVEYOR
of Vestshell Incorporated and Kevin Rudolph of Wisconsin Precision Casting Corporation. Vestshell has already secured Bronze PCS Certification. Silver and Gold PCS Certifications
require an independent review and indicate that the foundry is 60% or 80% compliant, respectively. Working with the Internal CPPS, the Independent CPPS surveys process controls established in wax, shell and foundry as well as reviewing management support and involvement. The completed survey and certification recommendation is submitted to the ICI for review and if everything is found to be in order, the facility receives its certification, which is valid for a two-year period. There is no charge for certification
of ICI Member Internal CPPS or Bronze level certification. There is a moderate charge for Independent Surveys to cover Independent CPPS remuneration and travel expenses.
How to Apply for Surveyor Certification Surveyor applications can be found on the ICI website. Whether applying for certification as an Internal or Independent Surveyor, the form must be completed and submitted to the ICI Business Administrator for processing. Since only one Internal Surveyor
may hold certification per foundry, management approval is required. Independent Surveyors may not have current affiliation with a foundry or industry equipment or material supplier, but must have a minimum of 10 years’ applicable experience in investment casting foundries and offer three references. A full list of qualifications can be found on the ICI website.
