PROFILES Erick Zamora


has a double major in manufacturing and industrial engineering. He is currently a quality control intern at Fruth Custom Plastics, focusing on document control and quality assurance. He has participated in


numerous casting activities


through the Steel Founders’ Society of America and the American Foundry Society.


Katherine Pahua


has a double major in manufacturing and industrial engineering. She has interned with Niagara Bottling Inc. as a operations engineer. She is also industry liaison of AMS student chapter and team leader of her SFSA casting competition group. She looks forward in gaining more experience and expanding her knowledge in the industry.


Alberto Smith


is a senior majoring in manufacturing engineering. He competed in the 2019 SFSA Viking Axe National Competition and won second place. He also has earned multiple casting scholarships. He is currently working in the aerospace industry as an Engineer Co-Op at Precision Casting Corp., focusing on manufacturing processes and quality control.


D’Varon Feliciano is a senior studying industrial engineering at Penn State, graduating in 2020. He has interned with Benton Foundry as a maintenance engineer where he focused on quality control, continuous improvement, and data analytics. In the future, he would like to pursue a masters degree in industrial and systems engineering.


Kylan Bartok is a senior studying mechanical engineering technology at Penn State, graduating in 2020. He has had multiple internships with John Deere as a manufacturing engineer, working on an automated alloy transfer system that would automatically transfer alloys from a hopper to each heating furnace. His future goal is to gain experience within the metal casting industry.

Matthew Gielarowski is a junior studying mechanical engineering at Penn State, graduating in 2021. He had an internship with John Deere as a maintenance engineer. During the internship he was in charge of finding a replacement solution to the gear reducers in the Foundry’s 804 cooling shed. He hopes to acquire more work experience in the metal casting industry.


Aaron Slavin is a senior studying industrial engineering student at Penn State, graduating in 2020. He had an internship with Harmony Casting as a Quality Engineer. During the internship, he mainly worked on designing straightening gauges that met ISO 9100 quality standards and the tolerances that Harmony promises. He is looking for a full-time job in a foundry.


David Foltz


is a junior at Pittsburg State University studying manufacturing engineering technology. He loves the hands-on-activities and the small class sizes at Pittstate. He is a member of FEF, SME, and AFS. He enjoys outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, and hiking that allow him to get out and explore.
