2020 trends Sailing into 2020

Which ships will you be selling in 2020? Jane Archer previews the key launches

The A’s have it when it comes to new river ships next year, with vessels launching in Africa, Asia, America and the Amazon for river cruisers with adventure on their mind.

Not that Europe is in any way neglected. Of the 14 new-

builds launching in 2020, more than half are destined for the Rhine, Danube and Douro, which is the new go-to river, with a 15% increase in bookings from the UK in 2018, according to Clia. Among those seeking a slice of the action in 2020 is Tauck, which will be making its Douro debut. Bookings for the Danube and Rhine continue to flow in – together with their tributaries, they accounted for 58% of UK bookings in 2018, up from 53% in 2017 – so it’s no surprise that five of next year’s new craft will ply these waterways.

AMADEUS IMPERIAL, AMADEUS RIVER CRUISES In brief: Imperial holds 168 passengers in 72 cabins and 12 suites, the latter with walk-out balconies. It launches in April

with tulip cruises on the Belgian and Dutch waterways. Book it: From £1,779 per person including flights for a one- week Classical Danube cruise from Budapest to Passau,

departing October 8, 2020. amadeus-rivercruises.co.uk

AMASIENA, AMAWATERWAYS In brief: AmaSiena will be based on the Rhine from July 1. It accommodates 156 passengers and has cabins with inside and outside balconies, connecting doors and a third berth.

A Chef’s Table complements the main restaurant. Book it: From £1,584 for a seven-night Christmas Markets

cruise, including flights, departing December 2, 2020. amawaterways.co.uk

AMAMEKONG, APT In brief: Launching next October and based on the Mekong, this vessel holds 88 passengers and has an alfresco cafe. Local and Western meals are served in the main restaurant and in private dining room Indochine, where TV chef Luke

Nguyen has created a five-course tasting menu. Book it: From £4,995 per person for a 15-day Vietnam and Cambodia Highlights cruise and stay departing December 2020, including flights and overnight stays in

Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City. aptouring.co.uk
