Agents can tour five ships at the Clia River Cruise Conference in Amsterdam – here are some key facts about them

AMADEUS SILVER III Amadeus River Cruises

The lowdown

Amadeus Silver III, which launched in 2016, is the third in a series of Silver-class vessels from Amadeus, an Austrian company that sells in Europe and the US.

The facts f This is a favourite with escorted touring operators, as the good-value fares include wine, beer and soft drinks at lunch and dinner, plus Wi-Fi and use of the onboard bikes. Excursions and gratuities are extra.

f A new group dining option for between 10 and 28 people is available in a section of the lounge, which will be specially decorated for the event. It must be booked two weeks before the cruise and costs extra.

f Cabins have fixed or drop-down windows, and walk-in wardrobes. Six have connecting doors, while 12 suites have small balconies and a seating area.

f Breakfast is a buffet, lunch has self-service as well as served options, and dinner is all waiter-service. Groups are pre-allocated tables in the main restaurant, while a light lunch is served in the lounge.

CRYSTAL BACH Crystal Cruises

The lowdown

Crystal Bach was the first of Crystal’s four Rhine-class vessels. It can accommodate 106 passengers.

The facts f All cabins are designated suites. They have floor-to-ceiling windows and walk-in wardrobes, and come with butler service.

f Two Crystal Suites have separate living and sleeping quarters, and can be paired with the rooms next door to sleep up to five.

f Dining options include a self-service bistro and the Vintage Room, offering an eight-course wine-paired dinner for €280.

f Crystal Bach sails seven-night cruises between Amsterdam and Basel between March and December. There will also be three 10-night, round-trip cruises from Amsterdam in 2020.

DOUCE FRANCE CroisiEurope

The lowdown

Based on the Rhine and launched in 1997, Douce France was rebuilt three years ago. It relaunched as a premium-rated ship with bright, modern decor, larger cabins and fewer passengers (down from 160 to 106).

The facts f The ship has 55 cabins. They’re almost all the same size, but the ones on the upper deck have floor-to- ceiling windows, while those on the main deck have two picture windows. There’s one suite with a French balcony, and four single cabins with no supplement.

f Breakfast is a buffet while lunch and dinner are set menus served at the table. Seating in the restaurant is allocated for the duration of the cruise, which helps staff cater efficiently for dietary requirements.

f Douce France sails various seven-day itineraries between Amsterdam and Basel, as well as round- trips from Strasbourg. Prices include drinks and Wi-Fi. Shore excursions and gratuities are extra.
