Oceania Cruises to boost sailings via Southampton

Harry Kemble harry.kemble@travelweekly.co.uk

Oceania Cruises is to increase its presence at Southampton in 2020 to meet passenger demand.

As well as four round-trip sailings, the line will operate 12 cruises that allow passengers to either embark or disembark from the UK port in 2020. The 2020 programme will be

released on October 17. This will be an increase on

three round-trip sailings and seven port-of-call visits to Southampton in 2019. Oceania’s 12-day Northern

Gems itinerary, departing on June 2, 2019, from Southampton, leads in at £2,769. Ports of call include Oslo, Copenhagen, Berlin, Visby and St Petersburg. The 10-day Celtic Kingdoms

round-trip itinerary, departing from Southampton on August 4 2019, leads in £2,789. Ports of call include Edinburgh, Dublin and Cork. Bernard Carter, the line’s managing director for the EMEA region, said the decision to increase the number of sailings which touch the UK had been taken after more than 600 Britons boarded a 10-day cruise from Southampton in May.

Carter said: “As is our way

at Oceania Cruises, we have listened to our guests and we are responding to demand, which has now reached record levels.” However, he said there were no

plans to homeport an Oceania ship in the UK beyond 2020. Meanwhile, Oceania Cruises has unveiled two booking initiatives.

The second allows passengers and their travel agents to use shipboard credit to book shore excursions and land tours before departure. Credit can be used for voyages departing on or after May 2019 via the ‘Already Booked’ section of the Oceania Cruises website. Commission is automatically

Trio of cruise lines to hold events in Poole, Torquay and Cardiff

APT, Hurtigruten and Star Clippers are to host three roadshows in the next two weeks to inform agents about their respective river cruise, expedition and tall-ship products. The evening events – called Niche Roadshows – in Poole, Torquay and Cardiff will give agents the opportunity to win prizes including restaurant vouchers, cameras and iPads. A meal and drinks will be

provided at the events, which run from 6pm to 9pm. The Poole event is at the

Harbour Heights Hotel on Tuesday, October 16; the Torquay event at the Grand Hotel Torquay on Thursday, October 18; and the Cardiff event at Village Hotel Cardiff on Wednesday, October 24. To follow updates on Twitter

and Facebook, use the hashtag #nicheroadshows. To book a place at a Niche Roadshow, email your name, agency, Abta number and contact details to: uk.events@hurtigruten.com
