Andante unveils ‘Bare Bones’ range

Lucy Huxley lucy.huxley@travelweekly.co.uk

Archaeological and cultural touring specialist Andante Travels has added shorter durations and lower price points for next year.

The ‘Bare Bones’ programme is

“perfect for first-timers”, according to Richard Tarrant, marketing director of Andante parent company Specialist Journeys. He said the Bare Bones range

should appeal to agents who hadn’t sold Andante before. The five to seven-day tours,

instead of 12 to 14-day options, can be taken alone or combined

with others. The trips include a guide lecturer, visits to key sites and stays in four-star accommodation as standard. Tarrant said: “We are not talking

about really obscure places, just more-comprehensive and insightful visits to sights that everyone wants to see. “For example, Pompeii is

Andante’s biggest seller. “But with us, customers will get

a real sense of the poignancy of the place and what it was like for the people that lived there.” Tarrant said Specialist Journeys

was looking to increase the range of ‘Travels In...’ tours, such as gastronomy tours under ‘Travels in Food’, in the Andante brochure.

DIGGING DEEP: Andante offers shorter trips for next year

Also new for 2019 is a cruise-

and-stay programme via a tie-up with Voyages to Antiquity. Andante has taken allocations on three cruises, in May, August and September, and packaged them up with pre and post-tours. “It’s a ridiculously good fit,” said

Tarrant. “And we will potentially look at doing something similar with river cruises.” Specialist Journeys announced

last month it would be starting to sell four of its brands through agents for the first time: Andante Travels; gardending tour specialist Brightwater Holidays; Historical Trips; and wine tour specialist
