THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT Costa Rica

 Turtles can be spotted on its beaches Spotting turtles tops many people’s wish lists when they visit Costa Rica,

but it’s not only the well-known Tortuguero National Park that plays host to these majestic sea creatures. Leatherback, olive ridley and hawksbill turtles can be seen on both coastlines of Costa Rica, including in Guanacaste’s Las Baulas National Park and Ostional Wildlife Reserve on the Nicoya Peninsula. Costa Rica is home to 5% of the world’s biodiversity and incredible species can be spotted on land as well as at sea. Look out for tapirs, two and three-toed sloths, red-eyed tree frogs and many more.

 It has hundreds of volcanoes Costa Rica is home to more than 200 volcanoes, and that volcanic

activity has also created an abundance of hot springs all around the country – many suitable for taking a relaxing dip! Keen hikers can admire these volcanoes on a trail around the national parks. The Irazú volcano, the most magnificent of all, reaches a towering 3,432m. On a clear day, you can see both the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean from its peak.

 The food might surprise you For a country a fifth the size of the UK, the cuisine is impressively varied.

The long coastlines mean seafood is always the special of the day, and along the Caribbean coast, much of the cuisine is influenced by its nearby island neighbours. Make sure your customers try rondón, a spicy seafood- based soup made with coconut milk, and a legacy of the country’s Afro- Caribbean population. And get a taste of some Costa Rican-style ceviche, made with marinated fish, onions and peppers, for an even tastier version of the trendy fish dish.

 Opportunities for adventure are endless The national parks, river rapids and exhilarating waves make Costa Rica

an adventurers’ playground. The country boasts world-class surfing spots on both coastlines, exhilarating white-water rafting, and ziplines through the jungle. For those who enjoy an adventure without the adrenaline rush, a quarter of Costa Rica’s land is protected by national parks, ready to be explored on foot.

 The country produces world-class coffee Many Central and South American countries are well-known for producing

coffee, but did you know coffee from Costa Rica is among the best? Coffee production dates back to the 1700s, and the climate, rich soil and rainy seasons all help to give each of Costa Rica’s coffee regions a distinctive taste.
