To visit the Western Cape in South Africa is to love it

Cape Town is a stunning combination of cultures, tastes and experiences for young and old. You’ll fi nd state of-the- art shopping malls, open-air markets, a dynamic nightlife and windows into our rich history. A great start is the V&A Waterfront, with shops, bars, eateries and views to keep you busy for days. It’s also where you catch the boat to Robben Island to tour the island prison that was home to Nelson Mandela for 18 years. Tours are led by former inmates, and are humbling and fascinating in equal measure. To continue your history lesson, head to the District Six Museum. Housed in a former Methodist Church, it’s a celebration of the area that was destroyed during apartheid, and incredibly moving. And of course, you can’t miss Table Mountain. It’s part of the fabric of the city. The views from the 500 million-year-old monolith simply can’t be bettered.

The Mother City is also the perfect jumping off point for adventures throughout the Western Cape: the Cape West Coast (Weskus), the Cape Karoo, the Garden Route & Klein Karoo, the Cape Winelands and the Cape Overberg. This beautiful area of South Africa is renowned for wide open

spaces, outdoor activities, nature, and some of the best food and wine you’ve ever tasted.

Each area is worth exploring and has its own charm, you’ll uncover diverse culinary delights, award-winning wine estates, nature in full bloom, deserts, azure waters and white sandy beaches, luxury experiences and animal encounters that will make your journey truly unforgettable. But that’s not all you’ll fi nd here. Drawing strength from its diversity it’s the people that make our destination beautiful, and they invite you to share our colourful heritage.

This winter, Virgin Atlantic are bringing the South African sunshine to the UK by launching direct fl ights to Cape Town. We pride ourselves on rolling up our sleeves and taking on the big things, while never forgetting the importance of the small stuff . Because details make the diff erence at 30,000 feet. The clink of Champagne glasses on a special occasion or a cheeky cream tea. And we can’t wait to welcome you on board.
