A good memory is useful in all areas of life and memorization skills are particularly useful when you are a student. The following strategy can help with moving texts, or other larger chunks of information, from working memory to long-term memory. This method is effective because it does not rely only on reading (a visual skill) but also employs speaking, writing and listening to help you remember.
Memorization strategy
a Read the text once silently and once aloud. b Copy it out by hand. c Ask someone to read it to you or record yourself reading it and listen to the recording. d Listen to the text while reading it. e Repeat steps a–d as often as needed. f Test yourself by reciting the text to someone else.
