ON THE STREET Staying in town there are more than enough opportunities for a little retail therapy with independent boutiques, delis, gift shops and galleries. When it’s time for a well earned coffee or spot of lunch, head to one of the town’s tempting cafés, pubs or restaurants, many of which welcome dogs. Things get going early at Café Alf Resco where you can get a hearty plate of eggs and bacon from 7am and how about ending the day beside the river at the Dart Marina Hotel where drinks are served from a converted vintage Citroën van parked right next to the water.
TODAY the town is still a hive of activity with fishing boats heading out early most mornings, naval cadets on training exercises and pleasure boats taking visitors up and down the river to enjoy a cup of tea whilst watching the seals at play. There is also plenty to keep adrenaline junkies happy with sailing courses, paddle boarding, kayaking and wild swimming opportunities.
