Around Kingswear BY MIKE TREVORROW Shop News
I have just heard through a reliable source that we are to get our shop back again in the village. Appar- ently a couple have agreed to take it over and run it as a local shop. That’s good news for those of us who rely on having supplies locally, although of course Jo and Jason at the post office have done a sterling job of providing some of the neces- saries, bless ‘em. Shop-fitters are being engaged to make the required changes so the shop should be back with us before too long.
NCI out to play ….. Saturday September 11th was a fun
day out for the supporters of our much valued Coastwatch Initia- tive. We sallied forth from both Dartmouth and Kingswear on the very lovely Kingswear Castle for a delightful evening cruise. The climes were kind to us and the river was looking at its most winsome as we scoffed our abundant picnics and drank the occasional libation.
This was a fund-raising event for the NCI and thanks are due to the Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company which kindly provid- ed the boat for the event. Round about 100 happy travellers enjoyed the evening and were keen to thank Stuart Rostron who organised the trip. The picture shows four of the happy passengers: Rosemary Gifford, Stuart Rostrom, John Gifford and Kate Ryder enjoying the trip.
Wine Bar Since the last edition of By the Dart we
have seen a welcome addition to the village facilities of our very own wine bar. As most will have realised already this is now where the Coastal Estate agents used to be on Fore St. Lindsay
Dating Drama October 2nd will see/saw a produc-
tion in the village hall which is based upon on-line dating during the lockdown. Les Veale is directing a village cast, including Lynne Maurer, our very own parish council chair- person, and Jo Pizzi-Byrne, hot from Kingswear post office, John Miles and Andy Killen, all of whom will be treading the boards. The programme of events is presented by Thirty Minute Theatre and is split in to two halves: the first a series of short films and the second a half hour live play based on the theme of the pitfalls of online dating. Do please come along to support them if you get this article in time, the event starts at 8:00pm on Satur- day October 2nd and is to be held in the village hall.
Kingswear Primary School 150-year birthday celebrations
It’s better to celebrate late than to not celebrate at all. Kingswear Primary School turned 150 years in June 2021 but due to various COVID restrictions had to postpone the festivities. The school held a community open day on the 16th

which was well attended by some former pupils. Rob Little shared his heart-warming story: “Just wanted to thank you
Rob Little with oldest friend Lindsay who met at Kingswear Primary 64 years ago. Here they are at the school’s community open day, in the exact place they used to sit when they were pupils at the school!
and your colleagues so much for showing us around “our” old school yesterday afternoon. “It was a particularly poignant
