appoints new President

Steve Mayo, Regional Director Northern Europe Houghton International, has been appointed the new President of the United Kingdom Lubricants Association (UKLA) following the AGM held in Manchester, UK in September. He takes over from Hugh Dowding, who has served as President for the past 12 months.

Steve joined Houghton in 2006 and has spent 27 years in the Lubricants industry with specific knowledge and experience in the Metalworking Fluids market both in the additives sector and the end user market for fully formulated fluids. He has been a Director of UKLA since 2011.

Steve has four children and lives in Chorley, Lancashire, UK. Steve started his career as a chemist in the paper industry and continued his technical bias joining a water based coating business in a research role before moving into a commercial role as Purchasing Manager with the same business. Steve then joined a speciality chemicals business in Manchester moving into the lubricants industry in 1989 joining Polartech Limited as Commercial Director. He started his career at Houghton being appointed as Sales & Marketing Director in 2006 and has subsequently become a member of the European executive leadership team and responsible for the performance of the business in Northern Europe.

Steve has been a sponsor of Houghton’s membership of advanced manufacturing organisations such as the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre in Sheffield and the Advanced Forging Research Centre at Strathclyde and is passionate about promoting British manufacturing.

On his appointment Steve commented “I am honoured to be appointed to this prestigious position. Succeeding Hugh Dowding who started my career in the industry has particular significance for me personally as his mentoring over the years has given me the opportunity to reach a leadership role in one of the global market leaders in the industry. I am looking forward to stepping up and taking over the reins from Hugh who has guided the association not only in the last 12 months but over many years.
