More Approvals for Brad-Chem Additives
Brad-Chem Ltd is one of the UK’s largest independent lubricant additives and corrosion inhibitors manufacturers and suppliers. In recent years, Brad-Chem has achieved year-on-year increases in the number of industry standard testing approvals for its additives in low temperature and winter products.
During the winter months, transport infrastructure, equipment, machinery, and vehicles must be protected from frost, snow, ice, and falling temperatures. In freezing and near-freezing temperatures, snow or ice must be cleared or prevented to ensure the continual efficient running of transport, which must be achieved without the economic impact of corrosion to vehicles and equipment and with minimal environmental impact. Cold weather also presents challenges for fluid performance, particularly for heat transfer and water based fluids, where thickening or freezing can occur. Industry standard tests have been developed to ensure that winter and low temperature products are able to perform their function at low temperatures without significant corrosion damage to metal parts.
Brad-Chem’s strong focus on and investment in Research and Development has been the main key to its continuing success in gaining approvals for winter products for use in multiple sectors and applications. Brad-Chem Ltd is able to carry out R&D testing with customers’ formulations in order to determine the most appropriate additives and solutions, and to work with customers towards gaining the requisite approvals. While this drive towards customer-focused innovation has helped to develop solutions for the market and secure the numerous approvals, industry requirements for products that are kinder to the environment has driven increased demand for Brad-Chem additives from the formulators of winter products/heat transfer fluids.
General Manager, Dermot Glennon said, “Our objectives have always been to bring innovative products with improved performances to the market using only components that have the lowest possible hazard to human health and the environment, that are (where possible) readily or easily biodegradable and that have the largest possible percentage of their carbon originating from renewable
natural sources, and to ensure that we can manufacture these products with the minimal energy use and waste generation. We believe that this is the best way to minimize our environmental footprint, and that the best way to achieve it is through R&D and working with customers to develop the most effective and eco-friendly products in order to meet and exceed the industry standard requirements, in line with ISO 14001.”
The approach certainly seems to be working; Brad-Chem Ltd has achieved twelve separate full industry standard approvals for winter products containing its additives between 2011 and 2015. In early 2015, the company achieved incidental food contact approval for one of its corrosion inhibitor super concentrates, Brad-Chem 552, for use in heat transfer fluids, boiler water treatment and cleaning product formulations.
