“surrogate” promise, friction reduction and longevity must be promoted as new features and upgrades for sustainability as well as are the economic payback arising from their use.


One thing that is always forgotten here concerns standardised metrics2


, which are crucial for the


accurate evaluation and reporting of avoided emissions and/or sustainability claims in order to comply with US Securities and Exchange Commission (rule 34–99678) rules on climate-related disclosures and to avoid deceptive advertising or “greenwashing” as per US Federal Trade Commission. The European Parliament voted in January 2024 the “green claims” directive” in order to ban greenwashing and misleading product information [12].


Energy and material resources have to be used efficiently and sustainably regardless of the final destination because energy and material resources of the future are likely to be the ones that we won´t consume. This is exactly what tribology and lubrication sciences are offering.
