VLS opens more new cases following further complaints about misleading marketing claims
VLS has opened another two new cases after receiving complaints against two passenger car engine oils, bringing the total number of cases investigated this year to 8.
Case 178 concerns a 10W-40 passenger car engine oil and the performance claims made on it, a sample of the product is now subject to testing to validate and verify the claims made Case 179 concerns a 5W-40 passenger car engine oil and the mix of ACEA and OEM performance claims made, dialogue is ongoing to verify these.
VLS has also brought several cases opened earlier this year to conclusion. In case 175, VLS has concluded that the product is in a state of transition as the claims made against the ACEA engine oil sequences straddle across two sets of overlapping sequences.
During the investigation into case 173, it was found
that the product was not available on open sale in the United Kingdom. Therefore, the scope of the investigation lies outside the remit of VLS, and VLS has closed the investigation into the product.
In case 172, the Named Party’s blender produced information from their technology provider supporting the claims made at the time the product was introduced. The parent company is registered with SAIL under the ATIEL Lubricant Marketer’s Letter of Conformance to make self-certifying ACEA claims. Consequently, the Technical Review Panel has determined that there is no case to answer.
More information on all VLS cases can be found atthe VLS website.
