Eni, in collaboration with Baker Hughes GE (BHGE), are proud to announce the launch of two new cutting edge oils Eni OTE GT 15 and Eni OTE GT 22.


In 2010 Eni and GE Oil & Gas conceived the idea of working together to increase the efficiency of industrial turbines by reducing the losses caused by viscous friction on lubricated parts. In 2012 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two Companies to frame this joint effort. It was well-recognised that reducing oil viscosity increased fuel efficiency, but this was the first time it was applied to industrial turbines. The project was challenging, however we decided to proceed utilising our knowledge, experience and expertise in turbine oil.


Initially, we set up a test-model where we put into correlation the key oil parameters involved in the bearing pads lubrication (viscosity, density and specific heat) in order to find out the best solution to reduce the friction losses and to keep them properly working. The main risk we had to face with was the oil film thickness reduction with a potential impact on the dynamic performance. The results from this test model enabled us to move forward, selecting new and more advanced basestocks which, up until that time, we had never considered for “standard” turbine oil.
