EDITOR’S COMMENT

REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

t’s hard to believe that it’s just over a year since the fi rst lockdown changed life as we knew it. While it’s been incredibly tough for us all in many ways, we’ve enjoyed supporting you all through these strange times and shining a light on the resilience of the people and businesses that make this industry what it is. To mark the anniversary of the start of what turned out to be an extraordinary year, we carried out extensive research to get a true understanding of the full impact Covid-19 has had on the KBB industry over the past 12 months. How did the market fare? How did suppliers and retailers adapt to survive?

What lessons can we take from the experience? And what’s in store for the industry moving forward? Find out what our regular columnists think – Paul Crow (pg 16), Malcolm Scott (pg18) and Darren Taylor (pg20) – and our in-depth analysis, pages 36-40. Although we’re all still getting to grips with the fallout of Covid, there

are some really big reasons to celebrate this month. Firstly, if things go to plan with Boris Johnson’s roadmap to ease us out of lockdown, KBB retailers will fi nally get to reopen their showrooms this month – the fi rst of many steps towards a new normal.

Secondly, I’m very excited to say that we can now reveal the fi nalists in this year’s kbbreview Retail & Design Awards. This year, it’s not just about recognising the best retailers and designers, it’s about celebrating this whole incredible, creative and entrepreneurial industry. The live event was previously planned to take place in May, but following the announcement of the government roadmap, it has been moved to Wednesday, September 15 at the St George’s Hall in Liverpool. Clearly, it’s the party that everyone’s been waiting for because – despite there being fi ve months to go – the event has already sold out. How ever, we are running a waiting list, as there are inevitably always changes to who can attend. So, if you want to put your name down, you’ll fi nd all the details at www.kbbreview.com/awards. I hope to see some of you there!
