RETAIL & DESIGN
The award-winning kbbreview Podcast is full of insight, advice, personal stories and expertise from across the KBB industry. Here’s a round-up of everything you may have missed in the last month...
SEASON 2 EPISODE 17
Online retail with Plumbworld
In this episode we’ve got a very special guest as we tackle the often un - comfortable subject of online retail.
We talk to the CEO of one of the biggest online bathroom retailers – James Hickman of Plumbworld. He’s a fascinating guy and he’s very candid and measured about his views on the ‘showrooms vs online’ debate, but he’s also got a lot of insight into how people shop online and, in particular, just how much people really do look around showrooms and then buy online.
And if you’re not a bathroom person, then don’t worry,
everything in here is very applicable across the whole of KBB. Essential listening for anyone who’s ever complained about the effect of online pricing on their business.
SEASON 2 EPISODE 19
International Women’s Day Special: Part One
Your special guest host, kbbreview editor Rebecca Nottingham, brings you the fi rst of two very special epi -
sodes to mark International Women’s Day. In this fi rst episode, we’re catching up with two of the leading women on the supply side of the UK KBB industry – Teresa Arbuckle (pictured), the MD of Beko UK and Raffaela De Vittorio, sales director at Geberit UK. The corporate side of the KBB industry is predominantly run by men and yet, for consumers looking for a new kitchen or bathroom, the purchasing decisions are mainly made by women. So why are there so few women leading the industry? Should they have more of an infl uence on how the companies are run and the products they sell? And, does any of this even matter?

SEASON 2 EPISODE 18
Roadmaps and level playing fi elds
Spring is coming fast, we’ve had over 20 million vaccines and we’ve been able to add another word to our covid
vocabulary – ‘roadmap’. It’s the plan that will lead us all out of lockdown and into the promised land, or at least the nearest pub or, hopefully, KBB showroom. In this episode, we discuss whether those roadmaps go far enough with two top KBB retailers – we have friend of the pod Richard Hibbert from KSL in Sudbury (pictured) and we meet Joe Varley, the owner of Varleys of Newtown in Wales. Hibbert is also, of course, national chair of the KBSA, so, as well as roadmaps, we’re also talking level playing fi elds – the campaign aiming to lawfully allow KBB retailers to open their showrooms to trade customers.
SEASON 2 EPISODE 20
International Women’s Day Special: Part Two
In this second International Women’s day episode, Rebecca Nottingham heads to the sharp end where the
industry meets the consumer – the retail showroom. A recent survey showed that it’s women who usually make the main purchasing decisions, so does it help if it’s a woman making the sale?
How has the retail side of the industry changed when it comes to female business owners and, in light of tragic recent events, what precautions should women take when visiting clients home alone. We’re very lucky to be talking about all this and more to two leading retailers – Tina Riley of Modern Homes in Leamington and Diane Berry of Diane Berry Kitchens in Manchester (pictured).
