The unique mantel design was rather tricky with the corbel details. The fitters had to make sure the corbels were fixed really well, as they weren’t simply aesthetic elements, but also provided support for the mantel section and extractor housed within. The large fridge-freezer was also a challenge. It was the first time we had used this particular model in a kitchen project with the added difficulty of having them side by side. We had to create a custom plinth section to allow these to be vented correctly, but also carrying through the same stepped-forward plinth detail as in the rest of the kitchen. The large open section on the back of the island was another particularly difficult element, as the frame was one piece but sitting behind this were three individual carcasses that formed the three different layers. It couldn’t be sent in one piece because of the weight of the item. The sideboard unit/coffee display area was also a bit tricky as it
required four men on site to make sure we could lift it up and into position. It also needed to be manufactured in one piece to avoid unsightly joint lines. The project overall was a smooth fit, where we worked closely with other trades who were amenable and helped have the project finished on time to a high standard.
