sniffed out over 100 landmines and other explosives in Cambodia and was the most successful rat trained by the Belgian charity Apopo to alert
human handlers about mines so they can be safely removed - clearing the equivalent of 20 football pitches over a five-year career. Magawa was
awarded the PDSA Gold Medal - described as the George Cross for animals - back in 2020 and passed away two years later. Rest in peace, Magawa.
