A new law is due to appear in Switzerland which will bring online gaming into the market. However with a restriction on who can operate in this field there are many unanswered questions hanging over the sector.


Situated in western-central Europe, Switzerland is housed in the heart of the region and bordered by Austria, France, Italy, Liechtenstein and Germany.


Geographically it is divided between the Alps, Swiss Plateau and the Jura with the majority of the eight million people living in the plateau, predominantly in the large cities such as Zurich and Geneva.


Tere are 26 cantons and the city of Bern.


Switzerland is known for its history of neutrality and has not been in a state of war

internationally since 1815. Today it is one of the most developed countries in the world with the highest nominal wealth per adult and the eighth highest per capita gross domestic product.


It has a stable and prosperous economy and despite its small size is the 20th largest exporter and is also home to several large multinational corporations and seen as one of the most powerful economies in the world.


Te Swiss economy in 2017 is estimated to grow at a rate of 1.5 per cent, the same as 2016 whilst the unemployment rate is around 3.3 per cent. Te country is still recovering slightly after the


Swiss-Franc Shock in 2015 when there was a sudden and sharp appreciation of the currency when it rose by nearly 30 per cent against the Euro.


Industries such as electronics, mechanical engineering and hotel and catering were affected and it put the export industry under huge pressure. Te export of goods and services are worth over 70 per cent of GDP. But due to a robust economy it managed to avoid the recession although sales were down in many sectors. Last year the GDP was worth around $664.005m whilst the GDP per capita in 2016 was $80,603.
