“During development, the focus was again on safety aspects and ease of maintenance,” says the company. “The feeding device together with the hopper can be hydraulically swung away in one piece to open the housing. The case cover with the stator knives in turn opens in the opposite direction, and the knives with the pressure bar are equipped with a lifting device for safe handling.” The discharge trough is also easily accessible. The rubber rings of the machine’s ground plate feet effec- tively absorb vibrations, which is reflected in low noise emissions. As with other Herbold Meckesheim granula- tors, wear parts of the rotor of the

SML 60/100 SB 2 are easily replaceable. In early September, Coperion completed its acquisition of Herbold Meckesheim, which will be integrated with Coperion’s recycling product lines into its new Recycling Business Unit that plans to offer complete solutions for plastics recycling processing. In a statement, Coperion said it will combine its

strengths as an international industrial and techno- logical leader with Herbold Meckesheim, a specialist in mechanical recycling of plastics and plastic waste, and together they will form a united business approach. Herbold Meckesheim will continue to operate at its existing location and retain its name. Both companies will combine their capabilities in the field of recycling and integrate to build modular systems and plant solutions that cover a broad sector of the circular economy, as well as large sections of the globe with their combined sales and service network. The Recycling Business Unit plans to offer complete plants and systems for recycling PET, polyolefins, film, and rigid plastics leveraging Coperion and Herbold Meckesheim’s complemen- tary technologies. From mechanical processing — shredding, washing, separating, drying, and agglomerating of plastics — to bulk material handling, feeding and extrusion, as well as com- pounding and pelletising, the unit encompasses the complete process chain. “Together, we’ll have strong production and engineering locations in Europe, Asia, and North America,” says Markus Parzer, President of the Polymer Division of Coperion. Werner Herbold, Managing Director of Herbold Meckesheim says: “The combination of both companies’ key technolo- gies for the booming recycling industry bestows

excellent prospects upon us for the future.” Hellweg Maschinenbau will be presenting

extended options around the Smart Control system for its entire granulator range at K 2022. It has added a hardware module to the Smart Control system that can memorise the power consumption of the machine to which it is fitted over long periods – for example over a financial year – and provide it for analysis. “Together with the ability to display power peaks, it provides valuable data for optimising energy use,” says the company. The software itself now has the option of control-

ling granulator speed in increments of 1 rpm, so giving the user even more flexibility in tailoring machine parameters exactly to requirements. The Secure+ package for the control system also has new safety features: for example, as soon as it detects imminent granulator overloads on the basis of motor current and torque values, it counteracts them so that rotor blockages can virtually be avoided. The company now also offers customers the

option of having any of their central granulators (from the 260 series upwards) equipped with a new central lubrication unit. Using a Bluetooth interface, the unit provides the operator with all relevant data, such as battery voltage, temperature, deliv- ered lubricant volume as well as the time since the most recent pump stroke, operating time and number of pump strokes. The integrated, active reporting system enables the operator to detect irregularities at an early stage and nip them in the bud. With an eye to sustainability, Hellweg also offers the option of refilling empty cartridges as part of its exchange service. Pallmann plans to highlight its Type PSP

granulator at K 2022. This is described as a tailor- made solution for cutting up various types of (mainly PVC) building profiles for such products as windows, roller blinds, and cladding. Aimed principally at handling production waste, the granulator can produce material for feeding straight back into the production line, or it can be ground into a powder using Pallmann fine grinding equipment. Bruno Folcieri makes granulators for large

throughputs and “difficult” materials. Machines are designed and built in Italy. Company COO Esmer- alda Zoppi says its competitive edge comes from the strength and durability of its machines. “Our competitors are more aggressive on the commer- cial side, but investing in quality gives us an edge,” she says. Zoppi says the company’s Easy Power granulator series responds to the need of customers recycling
