PLASTICS RECYCLING WORLD EXPO | EVENT PREVIEW

of Circular Polymers, Rachel Bond, Partner at law firm Keller and Heckman, and Sydney Harris, Policy and Programs Manager at the Product Stewardship Institute. Next up is an exploration of innovative solutions

for a more cost-efficient line with improved productivity in automatic continuous melt filtration by Ludovic Pitrois, North America Sales Manager at FIMIC, which is followed by a talk on new challenges facing melt filtration in blown film applications by Parke Strong, Technical Manager at Ohio-based Nordson Polymer Processing Systems. Kevin Hinterberger, Sales Manager at Pureloop, a member of the Erema group, will discuss efficient production of waste recycling, focusing on logistics, flexibility, and performance. This is followed by a talk on best practices for plastics operations that process recycled materials from Bill Goldfarb, President of Una-Dyn. Later in the afternoon, the second debate of the day moderated by David Eldridge, will explore ways to increase recycling rates, capture more plastics and drive sustainability. The list of speakers includes Clark Dinnison, Head of Product at Replenysh, Ian Montgomery, Founder and Creative Director of Guacamole Airplane, Patrick Krieger, Vice President of Sustainability at the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS), and Robert Render, Business Development Manager - Sustainability at Ravago Recycling Group. The next presentation, delivered by Joe Platek, Business Development Manager at ACS Group/ Cumberland, concerns granulators for mechanical recycling with an emphasis on case studies and applications specifications. The last segment of the first day sees Irfan Huda, Technical Business Development, Plastic Additives at German chemical giant BASF, discuss mechanical recycling solutions for polyolefins in the world of plastic additives. Day Two opens with an industry debate. Titled

“The plastics packaging recycling challenge: identifying solutions and overcoming hurdles”, it features panellists Brian Hankin, Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer at Altium Packaging, and David Clark, Vice President of Sustainability at Amcor, specialists in developing and producing responsible packaging for food, beverages, pharmaceutical, medical, home and personal care. This debate is followed by Henrik Bernquist, Business Development Manager at Nexam Chemical, a Swedish company which specialises in employing heat-activated chemistry or reactive extrusion to enhance the performance of polymers, talking about tailoring the properties of recycled plastics streams using reactive recycling.

Next, Dr Tianhong (Terri) Chen, Principal

Applications Scientist, TA Instruments – Waters, discusses using thermal and rheological techniques to help guide plastic recycling, and Jeroen Frederix, Market Development Manager – Circular Economy at SI Group explores additive innovations to close the recycling loop in the form of non-dust-blends that improve the quality of the recycled material. After a short break for refreshments, Sven Wolf, Managing Director at NGE, part of the Next Generation group of companies, introduces a modular pyrolysis concept to boost decentralised chemical recycling by way of adding value for local waste treatment facilities and recyclers. This is followed by Jon Larson, Head of Plastics

Technology Sales North America, Central America & Caribbean at Krones, speaking about engi- neered solutions, water conservation, and micro- plastic mitigation for plastic recycling factories. A presentation on how calcium carbonate can be used for a sustainable future is delivered by Luciana Ballura, Market Development and Innovation Manager at Omya, producer of indus- trial minerals and distributor of specialty chemicals. The second day’s schedule is rounded off with a talk on how an evolving recycling market has affected size reduction technology, delivered by Dana Darley, Business Development – Plastic at Vecoplan, manufacturer and designer of shred- ding, grinding and recycling systems.
