FAKUMA 2017 | SHOW PREVIEW Materials

Actega DS will present new TPE products for consumer goods and pharmaceutical closure applications at Fakuma. The consumer goods- focused SoftEst range includes 21 materials, including ultra-transparent, translucent and natural-coloured versions in Shore hardness values ranging from A-20 to A-85. All are food-safe in accordance with EU 10/2011 and FDA regulations and are suitable for applications requiring contact with aqueous, acidic, alcoholic, dry and fatty foods. The ProvaMed 6145 TL, 6245 NC and 6345 NC

products are transparent and natural-coloured TPE compounds developed for pharmaceutical closure applications requiring reliable re-sealing after piercing. All are approved to USP 381 require- ments and can be sterilised using steam at 121 °C and 134 °C, or by gamma radiation and EtO with no significant change in properties. www.actega.de/ds

At Fakuma 2017, Akro-Plastic is showing new engineering materials for the automotive and electrical/electronics (E&E) sectors. Akroloy PARA ICF 40 is an aromatic PA MXD 6 polyamide with rigidity close to 40 GPa and 400 MPa flexural strength. German injection moulder Dr. Schneider is using the compound in a lightweight design concept for air vents which are made from highly rigid materials. According to Akro-Plastic, the superior surface quality means that components could be fitted without any coating into the BMW 7 Series. The group has been working on new flame-

retardant compounds based on halogen-free flame-retardant additives for the public transport sector. For example, Akromid B3 GF 25 9 (6360) was developed specifically for a bus seat in collaboration with the seat manufacturer Franz Kiel in Germany. Designed especially for the back cover and other applications, the compound exhibits low

flammability, efficient flowability and excellent surface appearance. The material complies with the requirements of UN/ECE R118 Appendix 8. Akro-Plastic has developed the new Precite

product series based on thermoplastic polyesters PBT and PET, as well as polyester blends. It says low moisture absorption, high dimensional stability and good mechanical properties are the stand-out features of polyester compounds which make them suitable for use in the automotive and E&E indus- tries where high levels of precision and tight tolerances are important. In physical foaming, AF-Color, the group’s specialist in masterbatches, has developed AF-Complex PE 990407 TM natural, an additive concentrate which promotes the formation of gas cells (nucleation) in the entire polymer melt. www.akro-plastic.com

Ampacet’s product offering at Fakuma will include its latest Antiscratch 1000617-E masterbatch additive, which is designed to enhance the appearance of injection and blow moulded PE and PP parts by minimising the development of wear marks and scuffs during manufacturing, transport and handling. AntiScratch 1000617-E is said to perform well on clear and coloured parts and has no impact on colour, odour or gloss. www.ampacet.com

BASF’s display for Fakuma includes its latest HALS light stabiliser, Tinuvin 880, which is claimed to deliver the high levels of UV resistance and low emissions required for today’s automotive interior applications while also offering extended thermal stability. The company will also show its Tinuvin XT55 stabiliser for fibre and film applications. This grade is said to offer good light stabilisation and improved processing. The company says it will also introduce two new polyamide low emission and odour grades, which are also formulated for automotive interior applica- tions. The company has provided no detailed information on these grades at the time of writing
