Uflex posts increases in sales and profits in 2025

Indian flexible packaging major Uflex saw both sales and profits rise for its latest fiscal year. For the year ending in

March 2026, it reported sales of around INR155 billion (US$1.6bn), an increase of about 2% compared to the previous year. This was largely due to demand and sales volume, said the company. This comes on the back of a 13% year-on-year increase in the final quarter – driven by a 10% increase in sales volume.

“FY26 was challenging for the packaging industry, marked by geopolitical

tensions and tariff-related uncertainties,” according to Ashok Chaturvedi, chairman and managing director of UFlex.

Sales volume for the full

year was just short of 650,000 tonnes – equivalent to that of the year before. The packaging film division – which accounts for nearly 77% of sales – saw volumes flat at around 500,000 tonnes. Profitability (EBITDA) for

the year grew by 8%, reaching nearly INR20bn (around US$207 million). This was on the back of a strong Q4 performance,

when EBITDA expanded by 36%. The company has also announced several new projects, including a 54,000 tonnes/year BOPP manufac- turing line costing around INR7bn ($US76m). It will be commissioned in the 2027/2028 financial year and will “strengthen the company’s domestic manufacturing footprint”, said Uflex. Uflex is also setting up

two recycling units in Noida, to recycle nearly 40,000 tonnes/year of PET and mixed plastic waste. www.uflexltd.com

Oben adds 12m BOPP line in Brazil

Packaging specialist Oben Group has acquired a new 12m biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film line for its Brazilian opera- tions.

With an annual produc- tion capacity of around 94,000 tonnes, the new line which is supplied by

Bruckner, will expand Oben’s production capacity. “This marks another

important milestone in our growth strategy and strengthens our ability to continue delivering high- performance packaging to customers globally,” according to Nikolas Zaidan,

CEO of Oben Group. This follows an earlier acquisition – in February 2025 – of another 12m BOPP line for Mexico. It also builds on the earlier integration of Terphane and Vitopel do Brasil into the company. www.obengroup.com

AI chatbot helps PPWR conformity

R-Cycle and Tilisco are expanding their PPWR Compliance Compass with an integrated AI chatbot. Users can now ask

regulatory questions directly and receive answers in real time. This makes the tool the only compliance solution on the market to integrate such an AI chatbot, said the development partners. The chatbot is based on

‘narrow AI’ and was developed by Tilisco and AI specialist Finias with a focus on PPWR – and draws on a limited, curated and continuously updated knowledge base. This includes: the full text of the regulation; relevant legal foundations; expert interpretations; recom- mendations for action; and practical examples. “Many companies face the challenge of correctly interpreting and imple- menting PPWR,” according to Till Isensee, CEO of Tilisco. www.r-cycle.org

Plastic packaging grows 11% in Europe

Plastics was the only type of packaging that grew in volume in Europe over the last 15 years, according to a study by the Joint Research Centre. The study investigated glass, plastic,

metals, paper and cardboard, and composite materials placed on the market of 19 Member States – which represent over 97% of the EU popula- tion, for the period 2011 to 2025. The total amount of packaging placed on

the market was 98kg per capita, with food and beverage accounting for the largest share. The amount of plastic packaging placed on the market in 2025 was 5.9 million tonnes (14kg per capita) – a rise of 11% in the 15-year period. PET accounted for the largest share of plastic packaging, due mainly to its use in plastic drinks bottles. However, in Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands and

Sweden, the quantity of PET is less than that of polypropylene (PP). Per-capita data also shows other

differences: in 2024, there were 16 kg per person of plastic packaging on the market in Germany, and only half that in Sweden. The average value across the 19 EU countries was 14kg. https://publications.jrc.ec.europa. eu/repository/handle/JRC147001
