of typical polyolefins, said the researchers. The work makes it possible to substitute established materials such as HDPE and design solutions tailored to specific applications, they said. As processing took place on industry-standard equipment, the findings are transferable to real-world production conditions, they added. Fraunhofer LBF and Fraunhofer IAP are now seeking collaboration with companies and partners who are interested in follow-up projects on topics such as material optimisation, processability, application testing or scaling.


Water solubility Lactips, a French producer of water-soluble plastics, has launched its Enosis range of hybrid polymers. The materials combine its CareTips polymer with other bioplastics to offer materials that are biode- gradable under natural conditions – especially soil – without leaving microplastic residues. “Manufacturers face a trade-off between performance and end-of-life – which Enosis is specifically designed to overcome,” said Bertrand Dupeyroux, VP of sales and marketing at Lactips.


Features of Enosis include: home-compostable and biodegradable under natural conditions without leaving persistent residues; fully or partially bio-based (by using CareTips); and, compatible with standard industrial processes including injection moulding and extrusion. Enosis is suited to applications where end-of-life management is important, such as agriculture, horticulture and forestry, and sports and outdoor activities, says the company.
