food use Scanfill says that its Scanfoil rPP POP (‘prevented ocean plastic’) is suitable for food contact use. The plastic film is made


from post-consumer recycled (PCR) polypropyl- ene (PP) and available in various levels of transpar- ency. The company claims it has properties equiva- lent to virgin PP. “We can now offer a


transparent foil based on recycled PP that is approved for food contact since Regulation 2022/1616 entered into force,” said Niklas Linde, area sales manager at Scanfill. The rPP that Scanfill


offers is a plastic foil with 30% PCR PP, which was developed to meet the upcoming PPWR require- ments. The recycled raw material originates from plastic cups collected in coastal areas in Southeast Asia. “Those interested can find out exactly which geographical area their plastic can be traced back to,” said Linde. Karl Banke, sustainabil- ity specialist and technical support at Scanfill, added: “Our supplier runs the material through an advanced recycling process, which is essential for its approval for food contact applications. Mondi has introduced its Re/loop FlowWrap with 35% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content for wet wipes packaging. Re/loop FlowWrap is a form-fill-seal (FFS) solution made from mono-polypro- pylene (PP) that replaces non-recyclable laminates for applications needing a customisable barrier, such as baby care, cosmetics and household wipes. It is compatible with PP mechanical recycling and contains 35% PCR content, said Mondi.

German full-service provider Interzero is buiding a new site in Dessau where it plans to produce food-grade polypropylene (PP) regranulate from Germa- ny’s lightweight packaging collection system. “Despite the difficult

recyclable material are first shredded and washed, then re-sorted and processed. The resulting flakes are subsequently recycled with


the necessary decontamina- tion carried out on site with a partner. All tests relating to the
