Raising quality with post-processing


New developments in downstream equipment include a quick-change MDO system, a spreader roll to eliminate wrinkles and a corona surface treatment model for blown film


Once film or sheet has emerged from the die, it must go through multiple processes – from cleaning to visual assessment – to ensure its quality. One critical technique is to neutralise static, and


there are many ways to do this. Fraser Anti-Static Techniques recently introduced the 24 V DC ionised airgun Model 4825 The model is a powerful, precise airgun de- signed to neutralise static electricity and remove dust or other contaminants quickly and effectively. Built on the design of the 4125 airgun, it features a robust handle and an ergonomic full-hand trigger, making it comfortable for continuous, all-day use. With pulsed DC high voltage technology, it has good charge decay performance, even at longer distances. The integrated high-voltage electronics eliminate the need for separate high-voltage cables, for a simpler setup. For ease of use, the airgun also includes a bi-colour LED indicator, giving operators instant feedback on operating status. Fraser has also helped two South Korean customers raise performance. In one instance, film manufacturer Osung had been using a competitor

product but faced durability issues and perfor- mance limitations. Fraser’s local representative, Ioncraft, suggested the 1250-S AC ionising bar. With moulded insulation and robust design, it provided both better performance and higher reliability, says Fraser. The outcome was stable print quality and safe operation maintained, as well as enhanced workplace safety with certified equip- ment, it added. Separately, its 3014 and 3024L 24V DC bars


helped reduce static levels by 98% at an oil-refining company called S-Oil. The company was facing serious static electricity


problems in the winding section of its extrusion process. Accumulated static charges disturbed the working environment for researchers, caused quality issues in the products, and created the risk of higher defect rates during subsequent process- ing at customer sites. Ioncraft ran some demonstration tests with the ionising cars. As well as the charge reduction, other benefits included: an improved working environ- ment, with operators reporting increased comfort; better product quality and fewer downstream
