Right: Pixargus says its ProfilControl 7 PlastX offers “pinpoint” technology for extrusion applications
Pixargus relies on a new illumination concept featuring enhanced LED lighting. High-perfor- mance LEDs produce a homogeneous illumination field with maximal light yield, while smart software filters out any interfering external light effects. The basic version of ProfilControl 7 PlastX requires fewer cameras, as its combines optimised optical equipment with high-capacity camera elements. “Where we used to need eight cameras, we now achieve the same reliability and performance with four or six,” said Frohn. The system also cuts scrap by detecting grooves – which are not always obvious. Particularly in window profile production, it is essential that grooves are detected early. Its groove detection module checks surface quality prior to the lamina- tion process so it can indicate any existing defects beforehand. In this way, the module helps reduce scrap and process costs. ProfilControl 7 PlastX is designed to inspect everything from simple to complex profiles – in- cluding window seals, zipper profiles and cable ducts. It can be adjusted flexibly and in a pinpoint manner to the different quality requirements of plastic profile extrusion. Systems can be designed for 360° dimension measurement or 100% surface inspection – or a combination of both.
Multi-layer scanner Rollepaal says it has launched the world’s first multi-layer pipe scanner. It says the system is the offline solution that can
accurately measure the thickness of individual pipe layers, as well as total wall thickness, diameter, oval- ity and foam structure in a single scan. “Every week, producers lose pallets of produc- tion due to defects in layer distributions that they cannot see or measure.” said Joe Venegas, R&D manager at Rollepaal. “With this scanner, you see the defects immediately and fix them immediately.” Manufacturers can gain insight into a multi-layer

pipe without the need for destructive testing or time-consuming manual measurement. The scanner is also 90% faster than traditional methods, says Rollepaal – adding it is the only system that works calibration-free with PVC, PE, and PP, as well as pipes with mixed material layers. The system includes a high-resolution flatbed scanner connected to dedicated software running on an industrial PC. The scanner captures a full cross-section image of the pipe. The software then analyses each layer’s thickness, ovality, total wall thickness and foam cell distribution and delivers an automated PDF and CSV report within a minute. During pilot trials, customers reported improve- ments – such as a 20% reduction in production scrap and a full return on investment within four months.
Laser measurement Starrett-Bytewise has introduced its Profile360 Blue real-time in-line laser measurement system for continuous 2D profile inspection. The device includes new software and hardware in a compact footprint. An embedded processor onboard eliminates the need for a separate PC interface. The new Profile360 Blue contains one wavelength sensor model, saving extra costs by reducing the number of spare sensors required. Expanded field-of-view options, including 60mm, 120mm and 180mm, provide larger inspection envelope capabilities in a smaller package. “The Profile360 Blue integrates into production
lines, providing 100% inspection of the entire parts run,” said Matt Orvis, global sales director at Starrett-Bytewise. The model continuously monitors key profile dimensions in complex shapes and features in a variety of materials. The system acquires thousands of data points around the profile and matches them to a CAD template, where key measurement parameters such as width, thickness, gap, radius and angle are extracted. These are compared to control limits and displayed on the operator’s terminal with a pass/caution/fail status indicator.
