German plastics converters report 2% fall in 2025 turnover
GKV, the trade organisation that represents German plastics processors, report- ed another fall in turnover last year.
It called on both the German government and European Commission to “implement far-reaching economic reforms and reduce bureaucracy”. “Germany needs an
effective bulwark against the flood of bureaucracy from Brussels,” said Helen Fuerst, president of GKV. GKV said that sales fell to just over €68 billion in 2024, a decline of 1.8% compared

2.5m tonnes was recyclate – a 2% increase on 2024. The number of processing plants dipped slightly by nearly 3% to around 2,700 facilities. Figures are not split into specific processes (such as extrusion). However, the building sector – which is most relevant to pipe and

profile extruders – saw no change in the amount of material processed (4.3m tonnes). This equated to turnover in the sector of €18bn – a fall of less than 1%, said GKV. For comparison, the technical parts sector (mostly relevant to injection mould- ing) saw 4% less material processed, equivalent to a 1% fall in sector revenue. Packaging, which is most relevant to film and sheet producers, saw a 3% fall in volume and near-4% dip in turnover to around €25bn.
