Water transport: polyolefin pipe

Polyolefin pipe is used widely in water applications – including the supply of drinking water, in wastewater treatment and in stormwater management. Pipelife recently supplied a stormwater management solution – using its ID 1200 SN8 polypropylene pipe – to a new neighbourhood in Sweden. Säterigatan is a new district of Gothenburg, comprising around 1,100 residential units, a preschool and other infrastructure. This includes a stormwater management system to handle large volumes of runoff. Key challenges of the system included: high ring

stiffness, due to it being a heavily trafficked area; high storage capacity; and fast installation speed, to meet tight project timelines. The solution relies on Pipelife’s ID 1200 SN8

large-diameter pipes in lengths up to 18m. There is also an underground reservoir, consisting of five distribution tanks. Pipe sections and chambers were pre-welded at Pipelife’s workshop in Ljung to simplify and speed up installation. The underground stormwater storage reservoir

was ordered in April 2025, and the system was installed and ready by the end of June. From the delivery of the first pipe, excavation and welding were completed in less than two weeks, says Pipelife.

It has supplied its egeXXL PE 100-RC pipe for the 10 km long North Industrial Collector (ISN), which creates wastewater infrastructure for the
