10:30 – 11:45 a.m. The Culture of the Bus Shop  Maintenance & Technology This industry is not only experiencing a driver shortage, but also a technician shortage. Discuss the importance of communication, loyalty and employee engagement, to ensure proper staffing in the school bus garage.


Addressing the Bus Driver Shortage  Management & Operations Join a panel discussion with student transportation leaders, to uncover strategies to improve the recruit- ment and retention of school bus drivers.


Adopting Lap-Shoulder Seat Belts for School Buses  Safety & Security Only four states currently mandate three-point seat belts, but an increasing number of school districts elsewhere are voluntarily implementing the occupant restraint systems. Child Pedestrians Crossing the Street & Implications for School Bus Stops  Safety & Security The younger the child, the harder it is for them to cog- nitively gauge the flow of traffic, and how they cross the street to and from their school bus. Review scholarly re- search from the University of Iowa that provides insight that can affect where school districts place school bus stops. The session serves as a springboard into a panel discussion on increasing school bus stop safety, in light of recent and tragic incidents.

Topics will include advanced driver assistance technologies, vision systems and more.


Resources for Student Transporters from the Alternative Fuels Data Center  Management & Operations A representative from the U.S. Department of Energy gives an overview of the assistance that is available for purchasing new, green school buses, from finding grant programs to understanding tax credits and incentives.


Creating Safer School Bus Stops  Safety & Security Child safety and student transportation experts discuss the dangers to pedestrian safety at school bus stops, including stop selection, student crossing, driver training and soliciting public support for safety.
