data through the Eplan Data Portal, giving en- gineers access to standardized macros, prod- uct attributes and connection data. This al- lows components to be selected and planned with greater accuracy from the beginning of the design process. Each component can also be represented as

a digital twin within the E-CAD environment. These digital representations help support plan- ning, simulation and validation before produc- tion begins. By defining the panel digitally first, manufacturers can reduce uncertainty when the design reaches the shop floor. That same data can then be transferred

into downstream production systems. Wiring lists, marking information and assembled rail data can be used by Weidmuller solutions such as the Wire Processing Center, marking systems, the Klippon® Automated RailAssembler and Raillaser. Instead of treating en- gineering and manufacturing as separate steps, the workflow keeps data consistent across the value chain. This end-to-end approach

helps eliminate redundant data handling and supports a more automated production environ- ment. For panel builders, the benefit is not only faster through- put but also a more reliable process, where the information used on the shop floor matches the original engineering intent.

Four Stations, One Workflow At EWPTE, Weidmuller

demonstrated this connected process across four primary workflow areas: engineering, wire assembly, printing and final assembly. Together, they showed how a digital twin can serve as the starting point for a more effi- cient production sequence. The process begins with en-

gineering in Eplan, where users create detailed schematics and panel layouts using Weidmuller product data from the Eplan Data Portal. This ensures that components, connection data and wiring information are standard- ized and ready for downstream use early in the project. From there, wire data can be

transferred to the Weidmuller Wire Processing Center. Wire lists generated during engineering can be used to guide semi-automated cutting, stripping and labeling. This reduces the need for manual programming and helps ensure that each wire is produced accord- ing to the digital design. The same consistent data

can also support printing and marking. Weidmuller marking systems can generate the labels, markers and identifiers required for the project, including termi- nal markers and wire tags. By synchronizing marking with en- gineering and wire processing data, manufacturers can improve traceability and reduce identifi- cation errors during assembly. Finally, the data flows into assembly support tools such as

the Weidmuller Configurator. The software helps shop floor personnel assemble DIN rail configurations more easily and reliably by visually displaying terminal blocks, relays and other components based on the digital design. An integrated rail as- sembly guide helps reduce errors and makes the assembly process more ac- cessible across different skill levels.

Panel-Building Efficiency The broader message behind

E-CAD integration allows wire assembly data

to flow from engineering software into wire pro- cessing and assembly stations.

Weidmuller’s integrated workflow is that digital transformation in panel building does not need to be abstract. Continued on page 58
