Proven Ideas TM’s new systems carry for-
ward many of the innovations as- sociated with ACE machines. In 2010, ACE introduced a dual- nozzle feature for K.I.S.S. sys- tems, allowing two differently sized nozzles to operate in tan- dem. Each nozzle could be indi- vidually programmed to handle different component types and sizes on a single PCB assembly. That type of practical flexi-
bility continues in the PHOENIX platform. PHOENIX systems in- clude in-line operation on the PHOENIX-IL model, automated flux application, precision solder control, internal preheating, spray and drop-jet fluxing, and integration with automated pro- duction environments through EmberX software. The systems also feature a

Practical Features Among the PHOENIX sys-
tem’s process-focused features is a programmable de-bridging nitro- gen knife. Using a directional ni- trogen flow with 360-degree noz- zle rotation, the feature helps sup- port defect-free soldering of tight- pitch and long-lead connectors. Additional options include
an automatic nozzle tinner, an integrated solder wire dispense station and a precision Micro
Drop flux dispenser suited for no-clean flux applications. The system also offers a solder pot ex- change cart designed to reduce the heavy lifting typically associ- ated with pot changes.
