Winners at the South Wales Argus newspaper awards last November

IAC wins again F

ollowing a series of wins in the South Wales science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) awards earlier in 2022, it is congratulations to Industrial Automation & Control Ltd Managing Director, Peter Lewis who won the Businessperson of the Year award at the South Wales Argus newspaper awards last November. Peter refers to himself as an engineer rather than an

entrepreneur, taking a practical approach to business. He is proud of the IAC apprentice scheme which he set up many years ago and his strong financial

management is the reason IAC is where it is today.

Said Marketing & HR director, Kath Lewis, “We're proud of Peter’s achievements and will be sharing in this success with him.” IAC operates from modern

facilities in Newport, South Wales, and is one of the leading industrial control systems integrators in the UK with operations worldwide. In Newport, UK it employs over 65 people and has a further 30 personnel around the world. The company is dedicated to delivering technology and service solutions which help improve process lines in a wide variety of industries including paper manufacturing. IAC expertise covers the application and manufacture of variable speed drive systems, along with vast experience in PLC and

SCADA design. Its engineers possess over 700 man years of knowledge dating back to the 1970s. The company is approved and authorised as proficient in the use and application of equipment manufactured by the world’s leading electrical manufacturers.

Reiss busy with both UK and overseas projects

eiss Process Machinery Ltd has recently received another order for one of its Rotabelt dewatering units. This will be the 7th unit manufactured by RPM with units already operating in the UK, Mexico and the Czech Republic. The dewatering units are used mainly for heavyweight board applications and use of them can give many advantages including:- • An increase in wire life due to elimination of

R

friction between the wire and the vacuum dewatering unit

• A reduction in couch power of up to 30%

• The ability to apply higher vacuums than on a standard flat suction box due to the much reduced drag on the wire

• An increase in machine production due to a dryer sheet entering the presses/dryer section

Rotabelt order is from an overseas customer. Other projects, either currently in the RPM workshops or recently delivered, include a Reiss vacuum system featuring ‘Governor Boxes’. This device can be used where there is insufficient height for the dewatering elements to use conventional barometric legs … such as in a machine house with no basement.

SVC vacuum control valves from RPM provide accurate vacuum gradient control

Reiss Rotabelt dewatering units are in operation in mills in the UK, Mexico and the Czech Republic

• Higher machine efficiency with reduced energy costs if production remains the same

RPM has also just delivered a Rotabelt unit as part of a new forming section for a speciality UK mill, whilst the recent new

SVC vacuum control valves from RPM have been supplied to a UK customer. The valves provide accurate control of the vacuum gradient along the machine which gives benefits for production volumes, sheet quality and reduced drive loads. The units are of all stainless steel construction and provide a fast response with a control accuracy of up to +/-12mm water gauge. The vacuum control valves can be controlled either manually or via an I/P transducer

control system. High and low vacuum ranges can be catered for by changing just one internal part, which means that new vacuum control valves are not required should the machine parameters change in the future.
