Smaller projects are supported by Walmsleys too A

s well as ongoing work on major projects and rebuilds, Walmsleys continues to offer and complete smaller tasks to support mill operations. Since the start of the year, completed small jobs include: • Headbox slice lip re-setting and repair following slice opening screw-jack failure

• Weld repairs and straightening damaged equipment following machine damage

• Refurbishment of floating bearing assemblies following corrosion of rockers and guide bearings

• Replacement of failing oil flow monitoring equipment for dryer sections

• Roll and drive shaft alignment, including off-set rolls driven with cardan shafts

• Yankee and dryer inspections and bolt replacement

• New drive couplings, guards and adaptor pieces for replacement of obsolete pumps

• Replacement of primary arm gear segments and cross-shafts, complete with new housings and pinions

• Press roll loading checks

New work planned for the second quarter includes: • Replacement of obsolete geared motor units on two headboxes for slice opening, including new brackets, couplings, guards, installation and re-setting of slice opening

• Cantilever system refurbishment and re-setting to reduce fabric change time

• Replacement of corroded machine guards

• Removal and fitting of new hollow shaft gear unit

no compromise is required on Cost versus Quality.

One such example comes from a Scandinavian brown stock pulp producer who adopted AFT’s latest screening components after an audit. The upgraded screening components made it possible to cut energy consumption by 50% and doubled the life of the cylinders and rotors.

Enhanced performance wear component design and function results from AFT’s understanding of screening fundamentals, screening processes and

limitations of screen capability. Saving energy, saving valuable fibres or maximising fibre yield is a result of understanding process conditions, the function of key processes and equipment parameters, together with selection of the right equipment.
