or more than 50 years Officine Airaghi, represented by Jarshire Limited, has been serving the pulp and paper industry with a range of products made from stainless steel, anti-wear alloys thermally treated to ensure the longest possible life.

Refining products: • Discs milled on one or both sides • Short conical fittings (Conflo type) cast in mono-block or segments

• Low conical fittings (Jordan type) cast in mono-block

• Short conical fittings with wide angle (Claflin type) cast in mono- block or segments

Fittings for most manufacturers machinery, including conical and

disc refiners, can also be reconditioned.

Deflaking Products: • Drilled disks 250 - 600mm diameter

• Toothed rims 270 - 950mm diameter

• Cast mono-block deflakers

Deflakers from the most common models and manufacturers can also be reconditioned.

Stainless steel spare parts: The extended range now includes mechanical parts such as pulper screen plates and perforated sectors, shaft sleeves, pulper rotors, screen baskets and HD cones.

• Drilled screen plates or sectors for pulpers and turboseparators

• Shaft sleeve protectors in thermally treated anti-wear stainless steel alloys or with hard covering/chroming

Don’t forget your biggest fans!

At Salvtech we don’t just work in the paper industry,” says Martin Christmas, “we service fans and pumps across multiple industries but we see a striking difference in the approach to maintenance by one industry in particular.

The Energy from Waste (EfW) sector turns residual waste into energy and operates its plants 24/7, often with availability in excess of 8000 hours/annum. Unlike paper mills they don’t need to perform fabric changes or similar shorter period maintenance, so the main process equipment is

expected to run for a full year between maintenance stoppages and has to be serviced when the grate components are serviced. This includes process fans with Salvtech Ltd performing annual maintenance services for many of the large EfW plants in the UK.

Salvtech maintains fans in many large EfW plants to ensure reliable continuous operation

In order to do this Salvtech is employed to monitor fan health throughout the year, in most cases by remote online vibration analysis using 4G enabled systems and thermal imaging. This is to ensure that components can be monitored, and maintenance planned prior to the outage. This service package includes looking after bearings, coupling elements, ceramic seals, fan casing wear protection, vibration mounts, impeller cleanliness, crack detection and balancing, all being assessed at each outage to enable them to be changed prior to failure. One such example is Enfinium’s 2x2 line EfW plant just off the A1M near Knottingley, West Yorkshire where Salvtech has serviced the fans annually since the plants were

built. This includes the air-cooled condenser (ACC) fans as well as all process fans.

It isn’t just maintenance performed by Salvtech though, the company also plans the work down to the precise detail of which components will be changed and which items can be repaired or will be inspected and potentially left until the following year. This level of trust has been built up over years of working with the client to ensure it achieves the 8000 hours of operation between service intervals. In the paper industry the trend in fan maintenance has tended to be reactive rather than predictive, but with lessons to be learnt from other industries, is it now time to remember your fans?
