TOP TRENDS REFLECTIONS AND PROJECTIONS
Reflections and Projections
After another big year for emerging trends, we reflect on the styles that have been big news in the flooring world throughout the year and asked the experts what we can expect more of in 2018.
Nice and Neutral
Grey has most certainly been the way forward for interiors throughout 2017 and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon as neutral tones look like they’re here to stay. The trend of incorporating elements of nature into the design scheme is also nudging homeowners towards light and airy shades, bringing the fresh feel of the great outdoors inside.
Natalie Littlehales, Brintons’ Consumer Marketing Manager: “Grey is a wonderful, sophisticated colour, constructed of various shades and undertones. It is not only a wonderful companion to other neutral shades; but also has the power to balance out bold accent colours. Its versatility is priceless.
“Accent shades have the ability to change the whole narrative of a neutral scheme. The world is your oyster when it comes to peppering your scheme with brighter shades. Grey creates a
calming backdrop for any pop of colour, adding texture and introducing natural, tactile materials to your scheme will add interest and break up any colour blocks. The addition of a fabulous pattern can bring together an array of colours.
“Grey will complement any splash of colour featured within a space. It's important to understand the predominant hue- this colour will set the tone for how you complement the space and the rest will unravel, whether it's through form, colour, pattern or texture.”
Amtico: “2018 will see flooring focus on a mature palette, with lighter, fresher colour tones forming the foundation of designs. At home and in work, we all want healthier environments that make us happy. Therefore this shift in colour is driven by an increasing interest in wellbeing.
“With this in mind, there is a move towards softer, more muted colour palettes, which avoid aggressive colours. 2018 will see clever mixtures of colour with accent tones to lift the natural.”
