STEP INSIDE BATHROOM Challenge Accepted

We take a look at how Corian was used in a residential project to provide a seamless solution for not only just the floor but the entire bathroom.

When a compact and tired bathroom of a Victorian house required a new lease of life, design-savvy residents Mr and Mrs Cooper looked to the Corian surface material to provide a cohesive design solution that would avoid the kind of mould and surface leaks that had plagued the room in the past.

Mrs Cooper said: “We wanted something clean, modern and crisp, something that could be adequately sealed; perhaps with the look of a wet room, but without needing to be tanked.”

After undertaking thorough research, and being inspired by a brochure about new Corian offerings, the couple decided that this sophisticated design surface was exactly the right answer for their particular aesthetic and practical challenges. They chose to work directly with Wharf Seamless, a highly-skilled and creative industrial partner in the Corian Quality Network, to realise their vision.

The 1.8 sqm bathroom has been designed in a way that maximises the multiple benefits of Corian, which has been used for many of the surfaces in the room, in innovative and unexpected ways. Wharf Fabrications helped the Cooper family create a sleek, clean and seamless scheme based around the initial inspiration from a Corian brochure.

The bathroom floor itself is a spectacular and inventive finishing touch, also optimising the versatility and performance properties of Corian. A new design which will soon be a product line offered by Wharf, the floor tiles are made from Corian, supplied as ready cut to the exact floor plan, including the darker border tiles. This solution is designed to be both very easy to install and to keep looking pristine and beautiful and for the long term.

An accent of Corian in the same Deep Cloud colour choice that forms the bespoke shell surrounding the CorianEnergy basin model has been picked up in a continuous line around both the brick style tiled walls and around the patterned floor tiles in the Pearl Grey and Glacier White colours of Corian. This creates a distinctive design feature and forms a smart contrast to the pristine freshness of the Glacier White used elsewhere in the bathroom.

Other elements of the design include a traditional style shower head smoothly incorporated into a ceiling that has been clad with Corian. A glass shower screen has also been crisply installed directly into an enclosure that is otherwise made entirely from Corian, in order to maintain this light, clean, flush-fitted feel.

Mrs Cooper commented: “We absolutely love our new bathroom! It is a joy to spend time in, so uplifting and refreshing…and it’s a dream to keep clean!

“We would definitely use Corian again for any surfaces we can think of when we do any further renovations, and we would recommend it without hesitation.”
