MEETING & CONFERENCE

TOP TIPS FOR TIP-TOP FURNITURE

To help curb your conferencing furniture worries, UK designer and

manufacturer, Burgess Furniture offers advice on what to consider when specifying the fittings for your next meeting.

You’re organising the next company conference. You’ve secured a venue, selected the speakers, confirmed the catering and you’re almost on the home straight. But there’s one crucial element that requires more thought than anything else, and that’s the furniture.

Your guests will be sat for hours each day, which means you’ll need to guarantee comfort. You might require breakout zones for lunchtime or brainstorming sessions. Here are 10 questions you might want to ask yourself before picking appropriate furniture.

1. Will your guests be comfortable?

There’s nothing worse than arriving at an event to find you’re expected to sit on a bench without support, or worse, a solid wooden chair. To concentrate, we need to be comfortable, and that requires a good-quality product that’s been made with the user in mind. Styles such as the Inicio range, designed by our own David Hill, offer an innovative forward-sloping frame, which, together with a wedge seat and slim back construction, retains superior levels of comfort.

As trends come and go, you need something that will stand the test of time, while giving you the best value for money long-term. However, classic design needn’t be boring. Choose a solid frame with contemporary upholstery. If black isn’t interesting enough, why not opt for red or blue? Or play with trendy patterns? Choose a primary shade that will always look fresh and you can’t go wrong.

3. Have you considered all the ways the furniture will be purposed?

Are your meetings normally static? Or is there an opportunity to split into groups for smaller discussions? This may determine whether you need a heavy frame or lighter furniture that can be moved around more easily. We were the first manufacturer of the stacking banquet chair – something that’s since become a conferencing staple. The entire reason the concept was conceived relates to easy storage and mobility. Chairs can simply be un-stacked and moved to wherever they’re required without causing scuffs to the floor
